How to Prepare

Summer is warm, but a sweatshirt or light jacket isn't a bad idea. The shade of our canopies will drop the temp 10-15 degrees. And the movement of the boat as we cruise may drop the temp and additional 10-15 degrees. It sounds crazy, but it's typically 20-30 degrees cooler on the boat as we cruise in the summer.

The spring and fall season get pretty cold on the boat. Deceptively cold in fact. It always feels 15-20 degrees cooler as we cruise, so when it's 65, you can expect a "feels like" temp of 45-50 degrees. It’s the wind chill as we cruise that robs you of your body heat.

So you need to bundle up when we get those cooler temps. A wind breaking layer is more effective than an open fabric sweatshirt or blanket. Head and hand coverings are really helpful too. Your ears and fingers will get cold more quickly than your core.

What does Dan wear in this weather? He always wears: long insulated pants, a long sleeve thermal under shirt, a sweatshirt, an insulated windbreaker, and if it's below 50 degrees, ski pants, a cap that covers his ears, and ski gloves. If you have winter ski/snow gear, that's perfect for a cold boat ride!! You probably didn’t pack it for your trip, but if you are still at home, throw it in a bag. The right gear can make or break a trip.

As a side note, when it gets that cold, we are also more reluctant to cruise in inclement weather. An 80% chance of rain when it's 90 degrees out is no big deal, but when it's 60...that's a different story. Also windy days that cause more splash and spray can be much more difficult in cold weather. Route modifications and/or cancellations are higher during these colder weather months.

As always, there is no charge to opt out of a trip for inclement weather, and we consider cold to be just that. With respect to inclement wx, call or text us direct if you wish to cancel in less than 24 hours. For all other cancellation/reservation changes, refer to the link in your confirmation email to change up to 24 hours in advance of your trip.
